Chicago Police Officer Hit By Car Fleeing Traffic Stop

(CBS) -- Chicago police were searching for the driver who struck an officer with a car while fleeing a traffic stop early Thursday in the South Shore neighborhood.

The officer and his partner pulled a vehicle over in the 7300 block of South Jeffery Avenue around 12:30 a.m., and the officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle, police said.

The driver instead put the vehicle into drive and took off, hitting the officer in the process.

The officer's partner immediately called for help, and the officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Police were not able to catch up with the driver, and a description of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle were not immediately available Thursday morning.
