Chicago Police Issue Alert After Packages Stolen From Postal Trucks

(CBS) -- Chicago Police have issued an alert after a series of thefts of U.S. Postal vans.

Police say the thieves punched or pried open the locks on postal vans while they were parked on residential streets in order to steal packages and mail.

The thefts occurred in the 4700 block of Hermitage at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 23; the 2100 block of W. Balmoral at approximately 2 p,m, on Nov. 19, the 500 block of W. Wisconsin between 11:50 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Nov. 18 , the 2300 block of W. Byron between 1:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 18, the 1900 block of S. May at 9 a.m. on Sept. 23 and the 1600 block of N. Oakley between 1:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 21.

Police have released surveillance images of the suspect in the teft in the 1900 block of S. May.
