Chicago Police Hold Outdoor Roll Call On South Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- CPD held an outdoor roll call on the city's South Side in support of the officers and community Sunday afternoon, reports WBBM'S Mariam Sobh.

Chief of Patrol Eddie Johnson gave the officers a pep talk after the roll call telling them that it's tough to be a police officer but that their work doesn't go unnoticed. Johnson says it's important to let officers know they matter.

"I think they need to know that not only is management behind them but the citizens and the community are behind them also," Johnson said.

The outdoor roll call is one of many expected to take place in communities across the city. It's meant to give community members a chance to see the officers in their neighborhood.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel also stopped by to show his support.
