Chicago Police Deliver Gifts To Kids Of Fallen, Wounded Officers

(CBS) -- A Chicago Police motorcade is accompanying Santa this weekend, traversing the city and suburbs to bring some joy to police families that could use some.

WBBM's Mike Krauser Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived at Macy's in a police motorcade to pick up gifts for the families of officers killed or catastrophically injured on the job. It is part of the eighth annual Operation Santa hosted by the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

"This is our opportunity to go out to the homes of families we owe so much to for the sacrifice we make," said Phil Cline, the foundation's executive director.

Cline says they are visiting 15 families with 31 kids, "Making sure those kids know we never forgot them and let their families know the same thing."

Macy's is the sponsor of the event. $60,000 was also donated to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.
Besides gifts, the families will receive $2,000 checks.
