Chicago Police issue alert about crash-and-grab burglars on Northwest, Southwest sides

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police this weekend put business owners in three neighborhoods on the Northwest and Southwest sides on alert, after a string of crash-and-grab burglaries.

In each incident, the burglars smashed into a business using at least one vehicle, and then took gaming equipment and fled the scene.

The burglaries happened at the following times and locations:

  • 5:43 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, in the 2500 block of West North Avenue, West Town.
  • 3:48 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the 5800 block of South Kedzie Avenue, Gage Park.
  • 5:31 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the 2900 block of West Addison Street, Irving Park.

There are five to eight burglars. Police said they were between 18 and 25 years old, standing 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet tall, and weighing 120 to 180 pounds.
