Demetrius Southerland, of the 0-100 block of East 101st Street, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m.

The dog had apparently gotten away from him when he was shot.

He was nice…he was gone too soon," said Reneisha Woods. "He was just a nice person and I really, really miss him."

His girlfriend says she is pregnant with his child. Community activist Andrew Holmes is offering a $1,000 reward for information about the shooters, or their vehicle.
