Chicago Man Dies While Hiking In Utah

(CBS) -- A man from the Chicago area has died in a fall from a mountain in Utah.

Police in Utah say 64-year-old William Pierce was hiking Wednesday near the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort - about 30 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.

Police say Pierce sent his wife a photo from the hike and that was the last time his family heard from him.

He did not show up at a scheduled business meeting on Thursday and didn't make his flight home. That's when his family reported him missing.

His rental car was found in the Snowbird parking lot and on Friday evening, his body was found.

Police say Pierce fell at least 300 feet.

Just this month, emergency crews have responded to three falls in Utah's mountains, two of them - including Pierce's - were fatal.
