Chicago Has Already Filled Nearly 100,000 Potholes In 2014

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago Department of Transportation expects to fill its 100-thousandth pothole of this new year on Monday.

Department of Transportation spokesman Pete Scales says reaching the 100,000 pothole milestone is significant not just for the number of them but how quickly this mark has been reached.

"Today we have probably 22 crews out and they will fill several thousand potholes today. Compared to the same time last year, we did nearly 60,000 potholes so we are ahead of schedule I guess," said Scales.

That is partly due to the fact that pothole-filling season started earlier because of the extreme freeze and thaw cycle and Scales notes crews are out seven days a week . He says the budget isn't being stressed because the crews are not pulling overtime and potholes are expected here.
