Chicago First Alert Weather: Winter Weather Advisories for parts of Illinois, Indiana
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The National Weather Service issued Winter Weather Advisories for parts of the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana on Tuesday.
An advisory is in effect for Lake and Cook counties in Illinois from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. Slippery roads are possible with snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches.
An advisory for Lake and Porter counties in Indiana is in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday. Slippery roads are possible with snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches.
With low pressure crossing Lake Michigan now, winds on the backside of the system increase.
According to CBS 2 Meteorologist Mary Kay Kleist, west winds 30-40 mph Tuesday afternoon with snow showers. Once the system reaches lower Michigan, we will develop a stiff wind from the north.
Tuesday evening, between 7:00 p.m. and midnight, the cold flow over the relatively warmer waters of Lake Michigan (54 degrees) will generate lake effect snow plumes that will push onshore first to the city and then swing to northwest Indiana.
