(CBS) – The fond memories about Herb Kent continued to pour out Monday.

The popular DJ passed away Saturday at the age of 88, just hours after his weekend "Dusties" show.

On Monday, callers to V103 remembered the personality known as "The Cool Gent," CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports.

Mr. Kent first picked up the mic in 1949.

Richard Steele worked at V103 with Kent back in the 1980s. He attributes Kent's longevity to his passion for his craft and his genuine love for people.

And in Kent's own words, the secret to his success was this: "staying abreast of what's going on."

And he stayed on top for 67 years.
