Chicago Cubs Spring Training: Jon Lester, 'I Wouldn't Show Up If We Didn't Have Chance To Win World Series'

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Starting in 2020, you'll have to pay-to-play - and more specifically - watch the Chicago Cubs.

The team finally unveiled its marquee sports, which will broadcast almost all of the Cubs games on cable.

As CBS 2's Megan Mawicke reports from Mesa, Cubs pitcher John Lester is focused on producing more "must see TV" this season.

"I probably wouldn't show up if we didn't have a chance to win the World Series," said Lester.

The Cubs ace doesn't mess around. Everybody knows what drives the 35-year-old and he has faith in this current team to rebound this season.

"Everybody needs adversity. Everybody needs to get brought down a notch. And unfortunately we had to go through that last year," Lester said. "It's day one. I think guys are ready to work. It's been a long off-season."

Lester has lived up to his hefty contract and has been a source of stability for the Cubs. He's logged at least 31 starts in 11 straight seasons. That is not lost on the skipper.

"He's steady. The more I am around him, the more I appreciate him," Maddon said. "He's definitely an anchor and he's really taken to this leadership thing. I think he's got the same enthusiasm to do it now that he had 10 years ago."

Lester admitted he can't throw 95 miles per hour anymore, so he has to rely more on scouting reports.

There is no doubt the Cubs will rely heavily on their workhorse to lead them again this season.
