Students At Chicago Collegiate High School, Oak Lawn's Richards High School Each Facing Possible Charges After Bringing Loaded Guns To School

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Charges are pending against a Chicago Collegiate High School student, after bringing a loaded gun to school on Monday.

Police said officers responded to the charter school at 10909 S. Cottage Grove Av. around 1:45 p.m., and recovered a weapon from inside the school.

According to a since-deleted tweet by the 5th District CAPS office, the dean notified police of the gun, and an officer recovered a loaded 9mm pistol with a 10-round magazine from a student. It was tucked inside a pencil case.

Police said charges were pending Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile in Oak Lawn, police said a student at Harold L. Richards High School was found with a loaded gun and marijuana.

The principal said the girl's bag was searched because of a strong weed smell.

The girl is facing at least once charge. Police stressed she did not make a threat to hurt anyone at the school or anywhere else.
