Chicago Church-Goers Bring Pets Along For Annual Blessing

(CBS) -- There was some wagging and barking and maybe even some drooling at some local church services today.

At Grace Episcopal in the South Loop, the annual animal blessing ceremony was held in a park across the street from the church this morning.

Neighbors, many whom are not members of the church, came out with their dogs.

Sabrina Miller says her two Yorkies are sometimes quite vocal, but were quiet as the priest blessed them.

Nathan, who lives in the South Loop, says he doesn't really attend services at Grace Episcopal, but has gone to the blessing before.

"I think it is a great way for the community to get together and just come together as a neighborhood and meet each other," he said.

Pet blessings done are on the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
