Woman beaten, sexually assaulted when man breaks into Chicago home

Suburban man accused of sexually assaulting woman in Chicago's Northalsted District

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man beat and sexually assaulted a woman after breaking into a home in the Northalsted district Saturday morning, Chicago Police said.

A suspect has been arrested and charged, and made his first court appearance Monday.

The 39-year-old woman was inside the home in the 3400 block of North Halsted Street – north of Roscoe Street in the middle of a busy nightlife strip – around 10:45 a.m. when an unknown man breached the door, came inside, and assaulted her.

The woman refused medical treatment, and Corey Tenorio, also 39, of Hoffman Estates, was taken into custody at the scene. He was apprehended immediately after emergency crews arrived.

Tenorio was charged with one felony count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, and one count of aggravated domestic battery. Both are felonies.

The fact that Tenorio was charged with domestic battery indicates that he somehow knew the woman. But the extent of their relationship was not known Monday afternoon.

Tenorio went before a judge in a detention hearing Monday.
