Chicago Beefs Up Security For Big Weekend

(CBS) – Visitors can expect beefed-up police presence this weekend when Chicago hosts an annual holiday parade and as the Bears host the Broncos.

Wisconsin resident Annette Woller was initially leery about making the trek with her family to the Windy City, given world events. But she felt better once she got here.

"On our walk down here there were a ton of police officers on the corners," she tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards.

Authorities said uniformed and plainclothes officers will watching during Saturday's Lights Festival and Parade along Michigan Avenue.

On Sunday, Bears fans are encouraged to come early to Soldier Field, which will have enhanced security.

"This being, obviously, the kickoff of the holiday season and all, we have taken the appropriate measures," Gary Schenkel, executive director of Chicago's Office of Emergency Management and Communications, said Friday.

"This is everyone's responsibility. We've always encouraged people if they see something, say something," he said.
