Chicago Auto Show: Cars Do Some Of The Driving For You

(CBS) – Safety is a major theme at the Chicago Auto Show.

CBS 2's Ed Curran takes a look at some of the features being highlighted beginning this weekend.

The new Chrysler 200, for example, is a great looking car that's looking out for you. The car has special safety sensors.

When backing out, it tells you if a car is about to cross your path.

The 200 will even stomp on the brakes for you if you're about to hit a car.

So, what do the safety features cost? They add $1,300 to the $25,000 price of the vehicle.

Another example of high-tech safety: cameras installed on some Subarus.

Like a second set of eyes, Subaru's eyesight system keeps track of what's on the road in front of your car. It can also slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the car ahead of you.

These "active accident prevention systems" are becoming available on less expensive cars, too, perhaps to save us from our distracted driving.

All of these little sensors on the car can make a big difference when it comes to your safety.
