Chicago Area Croatian Community Ready To Celebrate Installation Of Archbishop Blase Cupich

(CBS) -- Many in Chicago's Croatian community will be celebrating the day before, the day of, and for days afterwards as Blase Cupich is installed as Archbishop of Chicago, reports WBBM's John Cody.

Father Joe Grbes, Superior of the Croatian Franciscan Fathers, suggests it's like seeing the hometown boy make good.

"I put it this way, Croatians went through some difficult times back in Croatia and then obviously coming to Chicago and now to have somebody who is the Archbishop of Chicago who kind of feels and comes from the same family traditions, it is obvious a big, big excitement for everybody," he said.

Fr. Grbes says many of the 250,000 Croatians in the Chicago area are going to be celebrating installation of Archbishop Cupich, many with services at Croatian Catholic churches, and many after that with a traditional meal including stuffed cabbage, finished off with walnut cake.
