CEO Shot At Workplace Continues To Recover

CHICAGO (CBS) -- There's a bit of encouraging news today about the condition of a Chicago CEO who was shot by an angry employee last month.

WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, Steven Lavoie passed his 55th birthday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Sunday, still recovering from the shooting that left him seriously wounded 21/2 weeks ago.

On the couple's CaringBridge site, Jody Lavoie posted a picture of her husband from his birthday two years ago and wrote that their daughters were able to see their father for the first time since the shooting.

She says each made him a teddy bear with personalized messages, recorded in their own voices.

She writes that Lavoie no longer needs many of the tubes and machines, so she's able to kiss him easily on the cheek.

In her words, "I believe he knows I am there."

Lavoie was shot late last month in his Loop office by disgruntled employee Tony DeFrances, who then took his own life.
