Catholic School Students Cheer Installation Of Archbishop Cupich
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Students and teachers at St. Columbanus school in the Park Manor neighborhood watched the ceremony at Holy Name Cathedral as Blase Cupich was installed as the Archbishop of Chicago.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports students there have several suggestions for how Archbishop Blase Cupich can improve their curriculum.
"We have very outdated books like 30-year-old books and it would be nice to have new books for our schools," said 7th grader Patrick Brewton.
8th grader Zachery Cotton suggests, "Maybe Windows 7 tablets, or iPads or Mac Books."
These young minds are even thinking of creative ways for Archbishop Cupich, to fight crime and keep Catholic schools open.
"He should be involved with like making changes, different events to the school, helping out with our pastor think of new ideas," said White.
"All crime starts when a student has a bad school experience and doesn't learn too much so he's put into the streets," said Brewton.
He suggest, "building more Catholic Schools for children and lowering the price for needy families."
White says this historic day may just lead him in a new direction in life.
"I think it may be a good experience for me and like, what I might want to be when I grow up," White said.
White says he might want to be the next Archbishop of Chicago.
The principal at the school says she hopes Archbishop Cupich will visit the school soon.
