(CBS) -- Cardinal Francis George, who is battling cancer, has been hospitalized after suffering from dehydration related to the flu and is also battling an infection near his cancer-stricken kidney.

The cardinal was hospitalized on Friday, after doctors examining him during a routine visit to Loyola University Medical Center found him dehydrated from the flu.

There is no definitive link between the infection and the cardinal's cancer.

He has been receiving fluids and antibiotics from an IV, and is expected to be released on Thursday.

The cardinal has had to cancel scheduled trips to Washington D.C., Washington state and Oregon this week.

One source who visited him Monday tells CBS 2 the cardinal looks good and is in good spirits.

Right now, Cardinal George is between a series of chemotherapy treatments. A spokesmen says it does not appear that his current illness is related to his cancer or treatments.
