Cardinal George Back Home From Hospital

(CBS) – Francis Cardinal George has been released from the hospital, following a stay at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

George, who is battling cancer, was admitted late last month for dehydration and pain management issues. The Archdiocese of Chicago reports he is feeling better.

"The Cardinal is deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Loyola University Hospital for the excellent care he received.  He is also very thankful to all those who prayed for him in a special way during his hospital stay, and asks for their continuing prayers, even as he promises his in return," a statement from the archdiocese said.

"Cardinal George wishes everyone a blessed and joyful Easter."

George retired late last year as Chicago's archbishop, replaced by Blase Cupich.
