1 dead, 1 critically injured when car slams into tree on DuSable Lake Shore Drive on Chicago's South Side

Woman dies when car hits tree on Chicago's DuSable Lake Shore Drive

A car crashed into a tree late Tuesday afternoon on DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Bronzeville.

Police said at 4:56 p.m., an 18-year-old man was driving a black Cadillac sedan on southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive just north of 31st Street, when he lost control and hit a tree.

The car was split in half by the force of the crash.

The driver was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. A woman in the car with him was killed in the crash.

All but one of the southbound lanes were blocked at the scene after the crash, and two northbound lanes were also blocked.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
