Police: Drunk Driver Steered Car Into Pool In Barrington Hills

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Schaumburg man has been charged with drunk driving, after driving his car into an in-ground swimming pool in Barrington Hills.

Barrington Hills Police said 30-year-old Bikramjit Sian was drunk when he drove his Honda coupe around a house at 5 Longmeadow Court, into the back yard, then into the swimming pool on the rear patio.

Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Wenschhof said the people who live there were awake at the time, and saw it all happen.

"It's my understanding that he was helped out of the car by the residents, because they were actually up at 4 o'clock this morning, and they actually saw the car go into the pool," Wenschhof said.

Sian told officers at the scene that three people were in the car, but police said no one else was in the vehicle, or in the pool.

The car was submerged, and had to be hauled out by a tow truck.

Sian was not injured, but was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

He has since been charged with driving under the influence, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
