5 Critically Injured In 5-Vehicle Crash On Edens Expressway In Northbrook

Chicago (CBS) -- Five vehicles were involved in what police are calling a "serious" crash on Edens Expressway in Northbrook Sunday afternoon.

Illinois State Police said the crash happened on I-94 eastbound at mile marker 26.5, near South Pfingsten Road around 2:17 p.m.

Five people, including a 13-year-old girl, were transported to local hospitals with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of a white Volvo truck tractor with a green semi-trailer failed to stop, striking four passenger vehicles stopped in traffic. Five people were taken to hospitals with life-threatening injuries.

All lanes at Illinois Toll Plaza 24 eastbound have reopened.

Jeffrie Baker, the 23-year-old driver of the semi, has been issued a citation for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Police said the crash is being investigated.
