C.J. Edwards, Kyle Schwarber To Play In Futures Game

(CBS) Right-hander C.J. Edwards and catcher Kyle Schwarber will represent the Cubs at the Futures Game on July 12 in Cincinnati as part of MLB's All-Star festivities. They'll play for the American side in a USA-vs.-World format.

Both Edwards and Schwarber are playing at Triple-A Iowa right now. Edwards has a 3.27 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 11 innings of work at that level this season. He's 2-2 with a 2.86 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings combined at Double-A and Triple-A. He's been used as a reliever this season.

Schwarber is hitting .167 (2-of-12) in limited action at Triple-A so far. He recently had a six-game call-up to the majors in which he hit .364 with a homer and six RBIs, primarily as a designated hitter, before returning to the minors to get more seasoning as a catcher. Schwarber hit .320 with 13 homers and 39 RBIs in 58 games at Double-A Tennessee this season.
