Burned Body Found In Far South Side Forest Preserve

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A body was found burned Sunday night in the Beaubien Woods Forest Preserve on the Far South Side.

Someone reported smoke in the forest preserve in the 13200 block of South Doty Avenue about 7:30 p.m., and when the flames were extinguished, the burned body was discovered, according to Cook County officials.

The victim appears to be a male adult who was badly burned, authorities said. Contrary to published reports, a sheriff's spokeswoman said the victim's hands did not appear to be bound.

The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the fatality, but the victim had not been identified as of Monday morning.

The sheriff's office is investigating.
