Bulls' Derrick Rose Leaves Game With Hamstring, Lower Back Injuries

By Cody Westerlund--

(CBS) Bulls point guard Derrick Rose left Monday's 89-84 loss to the Heat with injuries to his right hamstring and lower back. The team ruled him out for the remainder of the game after he didn't return to the court out of the halftime break.

Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg admitted that Rose had soreness in his hamstring before the game and tried to play through it. Rose will be re-evaluated Tuesday, Hoiberg added.

Rose finished with four points on 2-of-6 shooting in 13 minutes.

Entering Monday, Rose had played in 37 of Chicago's 43 games. He missed six games due to various injuries -- three because of his right hamstring, two because of his left ankle and one because of his left knee. Rose was averaging 15.6 points per game on 41 percent shooting entering Monday, and this injury comes after he'd found some consistency recently. Rose averaged 18.9 points on 46 percent shooting in the first 10 games of January.

Rose's injuries further deplete the Bulls in the backcourt, as they were already without reserves Kirk Hinrich (left quad) and E'Twaun Moore (right hamstring) on Monday night. Hinrich's timetable for a return remains unclear, as he's "really sore," coach Fred Hoiberg said. Moore's considered day to day.

Aaron Brooks is the team's lone healthy point guard. He started the second half in place of Rose.

Chicago starts a seven-game road trip Thursday in Los Angeles. If the Bulls want to sign a point guard, they'd need to waive another player, because their active roster is currently at the 15-man limit. Hoiberg wasn't certain whether the Bulls would bring anyone in for a workout, because the extent of Rose's injury isn't known yet.
