Building Fire In Lakeview East Sends Smoke Pouring From Windows

CHICAGO (CBS)-- Neighbors were woken up by a fire in Chicago's Lakeview East neighborhood early Monday.

Smoke was pouring out of a the building on the east side of Broadway, just north of the five-corner intersection with Clark Street and Diversey Parkway. The fire started around 1 a.m. Monday.

The smoke was billowing from the windows above Renaldi's After Dark, 2831 N. Broadway, and Farm & Sea Turkish Cuisine, 2833 N. Broadway. The Throne Room live music venue is also located above Renaldi's After Dark.

Police said officers were called out for a strong smell of smoke, and discovered that it was coming from a restaurant roof.

The Fire Department arrived on the scene and was able to maintain control and extinguish the fire.

A restaurant owner told police he left for the night between 11:30 p.m. Sunday and 12:15 a.m. Monday, and in that time, he did not see or smell any smoke.

No injuries were reported, police said. The cause of the fire was under investigation Monday afternoon.
