Bucktown Restaurant Hostess Chases Down Alleged Wallet Thieves

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A restaurant hostess risked her own life for a customer when she chased down two alleged thieves who stole a wallet, reports CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot.

Surveillance video shows Alicia Colon running down a Bucktown sidewalk chasing after the thieves Saturday evening outside the Irazu restaurant.

"I just wanted to help this lady out to get her wallet," she said.

Colon was chasing Darlene Henderson and Carl Hurn. Both are charged with felony theft.

Video shows the duo entering the restaurant and taking a seat. Moments later, police say they got up after taking Ruth Nadolny's daughter's wallet. The pair was sitting next to them.

Nadolny had been having a Mother's Day celebration with her mother and daughter.

Colon left the restaurant with her boss and the wallet owner running behind her. Henderson and Hurn hopped in a cab.

"She chased the cab down a few blocks, running like Walter Payton, like totally sprinting in gladiator sandals, opened the door of the cab while she was still screaming 'stop, stop, they've robbed us' and the cab driver didn't stop right away," Nadolny said. "I mean he actually was still driving, so she took a lot of risks."

The five foot three hostess ran two blocks, catching Henderson and Hurn after they try to get away and holding them until police arrive.

"I felt bad for the family," Colon said. "It was Mother's Day and I just felt bad."

"I'll always remember this Mother's Day and I'll always remember her and I hope to see her again too, definitely," Nadolny said. "And thank you very much Alicia. We love you. Thank you."

Henderson and Hurn are each being held on $100,000 bond.
