Bronzeville Fire Damages Commercial Buildings

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A two-alarm fire that damaged two buildings in the Bronzeville neighborhood overnight has been extinguished.

The fire was reported at 10:27 p.m. Tuesday at a four-story commercial building in the 100 block of East 47th Street.

About 200 ComEd customers lost power during the fire. The buildings include a furniture store, a nail salon and a pharmacy as tenants.

Walls had collapsed in the front and west sides of the building by 12:14 a.m., fire officials said.

The fire had spread to an adjacent two-story building to the east by 12:52 a.m., and the flames were through the roof.

The fire was extinguished by 2:20 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation Wednesday morning.
