Broncos Name Northwestern Product Trevor Siemian Their Starting Quarterback

(CBS) The Broncos have named Northwestern product Trevor Siemian their starting quarterback, they announced Monday.

Siemian beat out Mark Sanchez for the job after going 27-of-43 for 285 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in three preseason games, including a 10-of-17, 122-yard performance in a win against the Rams on Saturday night.

Siemian has made some history by winning the job, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history with zero career passing attempts to be the Week 1 starter for a defending Super Bowl champion. The job opened up when Peyton Manning retired in the offseason.

"I feel confident," Siemian told reporters Saturday.

A second-year pro, Siemian was a seventh-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
