Person Struck And Killed By Rock Island Metra In Joliet
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A person has been struck by a Rock Island Metra train near Lincoln Highway and Highland Drive in Joliet, Metra confirmed Wednesday.

Inbound and outbound trains were halted before 7 p.m. and remained stopped with commuters on board for hours as Metra crews and police investigated along the tracks.
Metra police said four people, who are believed to be between 16 and 20, were trespassing and walking along the tracks on a bridge when the train came through. One is confirmed dead, and two are accounted for and not injured. Another person is missing, but police are not sure if the person was hit by the train or escaped.

A man who lives nearby said he often often sees kids and young adults walking that stretch of the bridge and there is no place to avoid an oncoming train.
As of 9 p.m. trains were operating only between New Lenox and Chicago.
No trains were operating between New Lenox and Joliet.
Metra Police are investigating the incident.
