Boy, 14, Shoots Himself In Knee In Brainerd

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Charges are pending against a 15-year-old boy after a 14-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the knee early Wednesday in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side.

The younger teenager was handling a handgun in the 9200 block of South Throop about 12:50 a.m. when it discharged and struck him in the knee, Chicago Police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

A police source said the gun belonged to the older boy, and that they were playing with it inside his bedroom. When the younger boy accidentally shot himself, the 15-year-old hid the weapon. Charges were pending against him Wednesday morning.
