Boy, 7, hit and critically injured by SUV in Humboldt Park hit-and-run

Driver in SUV hits 7-year-old boy and takes off in Humboldt Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 7-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Thursday evening after being struck by a sport-utility vehicle in a hit-and-run the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

At 6:36 p.m., the boy was hit by an SUV headed north in the 900 block of Hamlin Avenue at Iowa Street, police said. The SUV kept going.

Police said the boy was in the street at the time. It was not clear if the boy was alone or with others at the time.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical, but stable condition, the Fire Department said. The boy suffered an injury to his left leg.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.

Late Thursday, police had not released a description of the SUV involved in the hit-and-run. It likely has some front-end damage.
