Boy, 3, Seriously Injured In Fall From Window In Englewood
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 3-year-old boy was recovering Tuesday, after falling out of a second-story window in Englewood, and hitting a metal fence as he fell.
The boy fell around 9 p.m., from a home in the 7100 block of South Emerald Avenue. He landed on a metal fence, cutting his stomach.
The victim's aunt said his 4-year-old cousin accidentally knocked him out of the window while the two were playing.
Eleven-year-old Samuel Martin was outside the apartment on his scooter and skateboard last night when he saw the boy fall.
"He had fell out the window, and we was looking, but we didn't see him, and then we saw him hanging on the gate. When I went up to grab him, he just started screaming," Samuel said. "He had a big deep cut on the side, and he just started crying."
Samuel's mother said she couldn't believe it.
"That's a baby. Any child that gets hurts, that's sad," Michelle Howard said.
The boy was taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition late Tuesday morning.
Police said investigators don't believe there was any wrongdoing involved, especially considering the children were just goofing off, and are so young.
