Boy, 16, Shot And Killed In Gary

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A teenage boy was shot and killed about a half-mile from his Gary, Ind. home Monday night.

The 16-year-old, identified as Rashaud Lewis, was shot in the 2300 block of Harrison Street in Gary, the Lake County coroner's office said in a statement. Lewis lived in the 1000 block of West 22nd Avenue, which is about a half-mile from the shooting.

He was taken to Methodist Hospital in North Lake, Ind., where he was pronounced dead at 5:21 p.m., the coroner's office said. Officials ruled his death a homicide.

A police spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment early Tuesday.
