Both Parties Cry Foul In Kankakee Election

(CBS) -- Democrats and Republicans are trading allegations of vote fraud and voter intimidation in a contentious Illinois House race in Kankakee.

WBBM's Nancy Harty has been talking to both sides.

To combat what he calls "deeply disturbing" allegations of people from Chicago offering voters gifts if they vote for Democratic candidates, Illinois Republican Party Chair Tim Schneider announced a statewide hotline for voters.

Meanwhile, Kankakee Federation of Labor President Mike Smith says he's heard African Americans trying to vote early have been told they were purged from the rolls.

Democratic State Rep. Kate Cloonen is running against Republican Lindsay Parkhurst.
