Boston-To-Los Angeles Flight Diverted To O'Hare After Weather Delays

CHICAGO (STMW) -- An American Airlines flight headed to Los Angeles made an off-course landing in Chicago early Monday after the flight experienced weather-related delays in Boston.

American Airlines flight No. 223, scheduled to depart from Boston at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, was delayed due to weather and did not leave for Los Angeles until 10:52 p.m., according to airline spokeswoman Victoria Lupica.

But before the flight completed its trip to the west coast, it landed at O'Hare International Airport shortly after midnight, she said. The flight's first officer had exceeded his allotted work time.

"One of the crew members, his work time had expired... We were following procedures," Lupica said. "It was not an emergency landing, it was a planned landing."

All of the flight's passengers were provided hotel accommodations in Chicago and the flight was rescheduled to depart from O'Hare at 7:21 a.m. Monday, she said.

"There's a new crew and the flight is rescheduled," Lupica said. "We apologize for any inconvenience."
