Body Recovered From Lake Michigan Identified As Missing Boater

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The body pulled from Lake Michigan on Wednesday has been identified as a boater who went missing after falling out of a sailboat near Montrose Harbor on Saturday.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed a body found about a mile offshore from Diversey Harbor around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday was 56-year-old Daniel Brown.

Brown fell off the sailboat "Three's Company" around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, when a railing broke. Five other people on the boat said they saw him resurface once, but he disappeared as they tried to toss him a flotation device. He was not wearing a life vest.

The U.S. Coast Guard towed the sailboat to Belmont Harbor, because it had become disabled.

Police said it was possible Brown tried to swim to shore, because he was a triathlete and a strong swimmer.
