Blizzard Long Gone, But Snow And Ice Remain On Sidewalks

(CBS) – More than two weeks after a blizzard, sidewalks around 51st and Karlov remain encrusted with ice and snow, forcing pedestrians to use the street.

CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports.

"There is no way to walk on the sidewalks here -- no one shoveling. They should be fined," Archer Heights resident Thomas Spears said Friday.

The north sidewalk on West 51st and the east sidewalk on Karlov are covered with as much as two to three feet of snow in some spots.

Le Mignot spoke to students leaving Curie Metro High who were walking in the street because they couldn't use the sidewalk.

The real estate company leasing property next to the sidewalks said owners would have the snow removed by the weekend.

The local alderman's office said a citation would be issued to the property owner.
