(CBS) – This weekend's history-making snow storm could turn out to be the perfect storm for either Mayor Emanuel or one of his political opponents.

Chicago is a city where snow storms swing elections. CBS 2 chief Correspondent Jay Levine says candidates, including Emanuel, are trying to capitalize.

They're doing that by emphasizing the challenge or questioning the city's response.

"This is a snowstorm for the record books. But the response here was also one for the record books," Emanuel said.

Second Ward Ald. Bob Fioretti, who is challenging Emanuel in the Feb. 24 election, begged to differ Monday, WBBM Newsradio's Craig Dellimore reports. He listed a litany of complaints about the city's snow-clearing response, in particular the shape of side streets that traditionally have gotten lower priority.

"Some of these side streets won't be impacted for quite awhile," Fioretti said.
