Blind Grandfather Running 11,000 To Raise Money For Cystic Fibrosis

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 62-year-old blind man from Elgin has begun what he plans to be an 11,000-mile run, in an effort to help his granddaughter and others afflicted with cystic fibrosis.

"My pain, my suffering, my struggling is nothing," David Kuhn told WCCO-TV in Minneapolis.

Kuhn, a grandfather of four, said over the course of the next year-and-a-half, he plans to run the equivalent of 420 marathons.

"I'm running around the perimeter states of the United States – approximately 11,000 miles – for my granddaughter, who has cystic fibrosis. She's 12 years old," he said.

He has set up a Facebook community page and a blog called "It's All I Can Do" to document his run.

"I'm fear-driven. I want to do everything I can for my granddaughter to extend her life, and the lives of those who are struck with this disease," he said.

Averaging approximately 20 miles a day, Kuhn was using a GPS watch to log the miles. He was up to more than 1,400 on Tuesday as he made his way through Minnesota.

His goal is to raise $500,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. To help you can follow his blog, or check out his page on Facebook.
