Blaze At Northlake Tire Shop Triggers Four-Alarm Fire

NORTHLAKE, Ill. (STMW) -- No one was hurt in a four-alarm fire at a tire shop Saturday night in west suburban Northlake.

Nearly a dozen fire agencies responded to the blaze about 7 p.m. at Jacobson Tires, 2200 N. Mannheim Road, said Lt. Herb Milnes. The business sells new and used tires which helped fuel the fire, Milnes said.

"The whole building is filled with tires," Milnes said. "From front to back, top to bottom."

Firefighters from Hillside, Melrose Park, Franklin Park, Broadview, Bellwood, Villa Park, Lombard and Chicago, among others, assisted in putting out the blaze. Flames could be seen from the south side of the building while heavy black smoke filled the air from the east, Milnes said. The blaze was put out by 11:30 p.m.

The Chicago Fire Department's Foam Task Force assisted by focusing its efforts on the burning tires, Milnes added.

Meanwhile, a neighboring residential home also caught fire as a result of the blaze. As a result, a family of three was displaced and is now staying at an area hotel, Milnes said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation, Milnes said.
