Blackhawks' van Riemsdyk Suffers 'Pretty Bad' Leg Injury

By Chris Emma-

CHICAGO (CBS) -- All was not well in the Blackhawks' 6-2 blowout of the Dallas Stars on Sunday night at the United Center. Rookie defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk left the game in the first period with what coach Joel Quenneville referred to as a "pretty bad" injury to his left leg.

"He'll be out a while," Quenneville said.

van Riemsdyk took a puck to the left leg in the first period and didn't return. He was ruled out for the game at the start of the second period.

Chicago has until Thursday to make a decision on replacing van Riemsdyk, but it will likely look for help from Rockford.

"That's all hockey," Quenneville said. "Things happen, as a team, an organization, you get tested in different ways. It happens."

Quenneville also confirmed that winger Patrick Sharp will skate early this week before the Blackhawks embark on their annual circus road trip.
