Blackhawks Trim Roster To 24 Players

(CBS) The Blackhawks have assigned defensemen T.J. Brennan and Ville Pokka to the AHL's Rockford Icehogs, they announced Monday, trimming their roster to 24 players.

Brennan and Pokka were both acquired in a weekend trade with the Islanders that sent Nick Leddy to New York. The two prospects had to clear waivers before being sent to Rockford.

Chicago now had to pare one more player off its roster before opening the season Thursday at Dallas. Teams carry 23 players and dress 20 once the regular season starts.

The Blackhawks' roster now is comprised of 14 forward, eight defensemen and two goalies.
