Blackhawks To Open Oct. 7 Against Rangers

By Chris Emma--

(CBS) The Blackhawks will raise their sixth championship banner on Oct. 7, prior to an Original Six matchup with the New York Rangers. That game time is set for 7 p.m. CT at the United Center.

This news came Wednesday from the Blackhawks in conjunction with the NHL, which will release the full 2015-'16  schedule Thursday morning.

Additionally, the Blackhawks will play on Oct. 9 against the New York Islanders, the organization's first game at the Barclays Center. The Islanders had played in Long Island since 1972.

Chicago won the Stanley Cup with a 2-0 victory in Game 6 over the Tampa Bay Lightning on June 15. The last NHL team to repeat as champions was the Red Wings in 1997 and 1998.
