Blackhawks To Build New Practice Facility On Site Of Malcolm X College

(CBS) -- The Chicago Blackhawks will build their new practice facility and community ice center on the site of Malcolm X College, the team announced Wednesday night.

Malcolm X will be moving from its current location on Van Buren, south of the United Center, to a new campus next year.

A formal announcement with Mayor Rahm Emanuel and team executives is expected Thursday.

Construction is expected to start next year on the 125,000-square-foot facility, which will have two ice rinks.

The facility is expected to be finished within two years. It also would serve as a community rink to interest more kids in hockey.

It could also boost chairman Rocky Wirtz's bid for Chicago to win the 2018 World Junior Championships, one of hockey's most coveted events.
