Blackhawks Send Hartman To Rockford, Reduce Roster To 27

(CBS) The Blackhawks have assigned forward Ryan Hartman to the Rockford Icehogs of the AHL, trimming their roster to 27 players.

The Blackhawks have one preseason game left -- Friday against the Rangers on the road -- to evaluate their players in before opening the season against the Stars next Thursday. Teams dress 20 players in regular-season games.

Chicago still needs to make a move to trim about $2.2 million off its salary cap by the season opener. A trade is the most likely avenue to do that, and Michal Rozsival and Nick Leddy have been rumored to be two players on the market.

The Blackhawks' roster now is comprised of 15 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies.
