Blackhawks Reassign Stephen Johns

(CBS) Blackhawks defenseman Stephen Johns' stint in Chicago didn't even involve a game.

A day after getting called up by the Blackhawks, the 22-year-old Johns has been reassigned to AHL Rockford. The shuffling was presumably for salary cap reasons, as the Blackhawks don't have much cap space.

Johns has five assists in 16 games with Rockford this season. He was the team's second-round pick in 2010.

The Blackhawks still have a roster spot to fill after defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk went on the long term injured reserve.

Chicago next plays Thursday at Calgary.
