Blackhawks Put Brandon Mashinter On Injured Reserve

(CBS) The Blackhawks have trimmed their active roster down to the 23 players it needs to be at for Thursday's opener by placing forward Brandon Mashinter on the injured reserve list, retroactive to Oct. 1. Mashinter has an undisclosed injury.

The Blackhawks acquired Mashinter from the Rangers in December 2013. He hasn't appeared in a regular-season game yet with Chicago. He did appear in three preseason games.

Mashinter agreed to a two-year contract with the Blackhawks last March.

"I thought he was progressing in camp," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said of Mashinter last week. "Unfortunately, last game he got a little bit of an injury there. It's kept him off the ice the last few days. We'll see. I think at one point he's got a chance to play here."

Chicago's roster is comprised of 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies ahead as it prepares to travel to Dallas for Thursday's contest.
